An Environ cool peel removes the build-up of dead skin cells, thereby helping to decongest the outer skin layers, destroying bacteria, and smoothing the skin’s texture whilst boosting the hydration level of the skin.

 

How do Environ’s Cool Peels work?

 

Environ have a variety of peeling systems, using acidic creams and gels which are applied to the skin, using varying strengths, to treat different skin conditions.

 

Low strength lactic acid is used to reduce the skin’s PH and trigger the release of growth factors.

 

Environ’s peels are designed to leave the epidermis of the skin intact (this is the 1st layer of skin) while at the same time getting the safest effective concentration of hydronium ions into the dermis (this is the 2nd layer of skin.)

 

This will preserve the architecture of the skin, whilst stimulating the fibroblast cells in the dermis to increase the quantity of collagen production, creating tighter and firmer skin.

Principles of Environ's Peeling System

Environ’s unique Cool Peel Technology is a non-invasive, intelligent skin peeling system, developed by Dr Des Fernandes, to safely and effectively help refine, revive and brighten skin.

 

The principles of Environ’s peels are based on the physiology of skin cells, these are to be protected and treated with care.

 

If the skin cells are aggressively peeled this disrupts the skin’s natural protective barrier and water will easily be lost and environmental toxins can enter the skin more easily.

 

Hence, an Environ peel removes only the excess ‘horny’ layer of the skin and yet maintains the ‘water-proof’ barrier, quality of the skin.

 

Dr Des Fernandes believes that heavy peeling is over-valued. The true Environ philosophy of skincare is best explained as light cool peeling, pulsed iontophoresis and low frequency sonophoresis together with micro-perfusion technology, whenever possible, for the rehabilitation of skin cells.

 

Science of Environ’s Peeling Systems:

 

After applying the acid preparation to the skin, the acid radicals (hydronium ions) start penetrating into the skin and exert their chemical effects.

 

First of all, the acid radicals are responsible for melting the glue holding together the dead cells in the stratum corneum. The acid destroys the lipid bi-layer to varying degrees.

 

Then the acid reaches the granular layer that is a layer of keratins and ceramides and other associated chemicals that develop the barrier to the deeper layers of the skin. This layer must be breached and the hydronium ions are effective in doing so. The acid radicals penetrate the spiny layer which is the area of dying cells.

 

When the acid concentration is either strong enough or left on for a sufficient amount of time, the acid radicals will reach the layer of growing cells of the skin (keratinocytes cells) these are the active living cells of the epidermis which can release growth factors.

 

It is believed that the keratinocytes that are healthy are much more resistant to acid change then the keratinocytes that are abnormal. As a result the unhealthy cells are destroyed while the healthy skin cells survive. These healthy cells grow and make up the new skin.

Alternatively, a course may be beneficial depending on the condition or concern you are treating. This will be assessed and discussed with you prior to any treatment commencing.

Q. Is a peel painful and will my skin peel?

A. Environ’s peeling systems are not uncomfortable or painful. The skin will not peel and you can resume normal activities after this treatment.

 

Q. What is the difference between Medical deep peels and Environ’s peels?

A. Medical peels are uncomfortable and painful and often the result does not justify the traumatic experience. Medical peels are based on the destruction of skin cells and can potentially have serious side effects on skin health including:

 

• Slow healing

Q. What will my skin feel like during and after my Environ Peel?

A. During your Environ peel, you may experience a warm tingling sensation, however, most clients experience no discomfort. After your peel, your skin may feel tight and slightly warm.

 

Q. How long does an Environ peel take?

A. Environ’s facial peels are generally performed in approximately 45 to 60 minutes. However, this can vary if it is combined with another facial or if carried out as a stand-alone treatment.

 

Q. How long after an Environ Peel can I return to normal activities?

A. You can get back to most activities straight away, however;

•You must avoid sun exposure and sun beds.

•You must avoid exercise for 24 hours after your peel.

•You may experience mild redness or tingling following your peel however, you can apply make-up immediately afterwards if you so desire.

• Do not pick, scratch or peel your skin.

 

Q. How many peels will I need?

A. This will depend on your skin condition and concern. Generally you would need a course of peels to treat a specific skin condition. Although if it is just a boost of hydration or an exfoliation a one-off peel would be sufficient.
